Regain your peace of mind by wearing our special hanten

This Sashiko-ori Samue-Style Hanten is dyed through a process called speck dyeing (also known as "mura-yarn dyeing") in Niigata Prefecture. Speck dyeing is a special technique in which threads are dyed one by one by Japanese artisans to express unevenness and blurring. The appeal of this technique is that it produces gentle colors with a natural and vintage look.

This speck dyeing is combined with threads that blend with the ground color as a stitch weave, and a very elaborate and tasteful texture fabric is used for the front. The lining is made of cotton broadcloth with padding and tailored in the samue style, so it has a double-warm structure from the chest to the stomach area.

We are sure that this hanten makes it a great gift for the winter season.

 What is “Sashiko-ori”?

"Sashiko-ori" is one of the weaving methods of fabric for reinforcement and decoration. This technique was used in firefighting clothing in the past and is still used in martial arts clothing such as judo and kendo even today.

In the past, "sashiko" were manually stitched one by one, but later were made easier through mechanical methods, and textiles were developed so that the pattern of the sashiko would appear.

The sturdy weave and rustic look make it a perfect fit for autumn and winter outfits.

What Are Hanten?

There are two main types of Hanten; Shirushibanten and Wataireitenten.

Shirushibanten have a store name or crest on the back of the collar and were worn by craftsmen as formal wear or work clothes.

Wataire Hanten were born as winter wear for ordinary people. They feature padding between the outer and inner lining for warmth during Japan's cold winters.

Today, our hanten are worn by a wide variety of people as a kind of stylish jacket both indoors or for going out.

Wasuian's Commitment

Our padded hanten are designed to be durable, comfortable, and allow freedom of movement. The thin and lightweight padding between the outer and inner lining helps retain warmth in winter without adding bulk or restricting movement.

Our approach preserves traditional craftsmanship while incorporating modern techniques. We are particular about sewing in various places to be light, easy to wear and last a long time.

As a result, our padded hanten are popular in Japan during the colder months. People from all walks of life find them so comfortable that they wear them daily.
