Samue for an Inn Where You Can Forget the Cares of the World

The Inn Where the Busy World Fades Away
and Time Flows Gently

Nasu Yumoto, located in northern Tochigi Prefecture, is a hot spring village spreading out at the foot of Mount Nasu. Situated in a highland area at an elevation of approximately 900 meters, it is blessed with abundant nature and high-quality hot springs. Its nature, displaying the green of the mountains, the red of autumn leaves, and a world of silver snow, captivates visitors with its ever-changing seasonal expressions. Far from the hustle and bustle of the city, only the clear air, the sound of the highland wind, and the chirping of birds echo through this land.

The owners of Nasu yobou decided to open an inn here after a profound experience at a Nasu hotel about 30 years ago. They say the breathtaking view of the Nasu Highlands from the mountainside left a deep impression on their hearts. They visited the area, stayed at inns that caught their interest, and continued searching for the ideal location while immersing themselves in Nasu's unique atmosphere.

Then they found it: a quiet spot overlooking ridgelines, where the murmur of a river echoes. No buildings, standing just amidst nature, they encountered a space where one could forget everything and become completely immersed. It was then that their vision crystallized: "We want to create a place where guests forget the world and time."
(yobou = 世忘 = forget the cares of the world)

An Inn Created with Nasu's Nature
and Sincere Hospitality

They took over a building over 30 years old and reborn it after 5-6 years since the previous owner closed. Guided by the desire to "preserve the original atmosphere while carefully repairing aged parts," the renovation was carried out with local craftsmen. Carpenters, furniture makers, and renovation specialists—all were local residents. They shaped the inn while connecting with the community.

Local materials and the craftsmanship of local artisans breathe life into the inn's spaces. The stone stove in the lounge and corridors retains heat all night once warmed, delivering a gentle warmth like basking in the sun. The deliberate choice to omit slippers, inviting guests to feel the texture of the wooden floors and washi paper tatami mats barefoot, is another unique touch of this inn.

Sleep itself is a vital moment of healing. Custom-sized futons (230cm) provide a "cocooning comfort" for guests. Shampoo and body soap feature locally produced items made by a local honey shop. Every detail is crafted to convey the warmth of the region.

The Luxury of Doing Nothing—Stays Up to 26 Hours

The defining service of Nasu yobou is its extended stays of up to 26 hours. This concept was born from the owners' consideration: "The guests may want to soak in the hot springs one last time at the end of their trip, take a nap, and then head home. But standard check-out times just aren't long enough." So they decided that their guests can check in at their preferred time, enjoying the freedom of time as if staying at their own villa. Three meals a day—breakfast, lunch, and dinner—are served, featuring homemade dishes made with carefully selected local ingredients. Meal times are also flexible, allowing guests to nourish their body and mind at their own pace.

The inn offers no activities or workshop programs; its design centers on the healing power of "simply being." Soak in the hot springs, lounge on the tatami mats, stroll through the garden when the mood strikes. Surrounded by tranquility and warmth, your mind and body naturally unwind. The milky-white hot spring, sourced 100% directly from Nasu Yumoto Onsen's spring and served heated without dilution, are a "living spring" whose hue shifts daily. Enveloping your skin with the scent of sulfur and imparting a gentle buoyancy, this hot spring offers the pure luxury of experiencing nature's bounty in its purest form.

A moment of surrender to the bath while gazing at the Nasu mountain range stretching beyond the large windows. It makes you forget the flow of time and quietly remember the richness of simply "being."

The Inn's Concept in Form:
The Housewear Collaboration with WASUIAN

For a secluded-style inn, the in-house wear is a crucial element that embodies the concept. Precisely because guests wear it throughout their stay, it must not only be comfortable and clean but also possess a quality that harmonizes with the inn's overall atmosphere.

Specifically, the following points were carefully considered:

  • Comfortable even when worn for extended periods
  • Easy to move in and relax without coming undone like a yukata
  • A sense of luxury that harmonizes with the inn's atmosphere
  • Easy to care for and maintain consistently clean

To find indoor wear that met these conditions, the owner couple reportedly researched numerous stores online and made many comparisons. That's how they discovered WASUIAN.

Crafted for a kind of comfort—quiet, natural, and effortless

■Guest wear

When they visited the factory shop in Kiryu City, the first thing that caught their attention was the texture of the fabric. They say they couldn't help but smile at the softness and lightness they felt the moment they picked it up. Furthermore, they felt deep trust in the careful sewing down to the smallest details and the attitude of the staff, who shared the inn's philosophy.

"Because it touches the skin directly, we were extremely particular about comfort. We wanted something that wouldn't come undone like a yukata, and that would be easy to move around in and relaxing. Above all, we wanted it to be a place where guests could return to their "true selves." In line with the inn's concept of "forgetting the world and time," we valued the comfort of "forgetting you're wearing it," and as a result, we decided on WASUIANs samue," said the owner.

After implementation, guests reportedly spend most of their stay in the samue, delighted by its comfort that prevents fatigue even during extended stays. When reviewing in-house amenities, consultations about geta sandals and children's samue also led to proposals tailored to the inn, providing significant peace of mind.

A garment that supports those who work—Samue as a Uniform

Since opening in 2025, WASUIAN's samue have been adopted as hospitality uniforms. We've received feedback like this from actual users:

  • "Work is just so much easier"
  • "Thoughtful attention to detail"
  • "Easy to clean and durable"
  • "Perfect as workwear"
  • "Doesn't wrinkle even after washing"

■Workwear Samue

Workwear originates from the garments Zen monks wore for daily tasks, combining ease of movement with practicality. We receive frequent feedback about how "comfortable and easy to move in" it is during daily work, making it a reliable choice for uniforms.

Nasu yobou weaves both tranquility and hospitality

The nature of Nasu, the warmth of the local people, comfortable samue, and hot springs. These elements intertwine, shaping Nasu Yobou into a place where you truly forget the world and time. Though recently opened, it already has repeat guests, and visitors often bring friends back for return visits. They diligently listen to guest feedback, gradually refining their cuisine and beverages to deliver deeper relaxation.

"Creating an inn is about connecting with people. The samue isn't just indoor wear; it's part of the space where guests can return to their 'true' selves. We feel truly fortunate to have found a garment that aligns with our inn's philosophy, crafted with such care in materials and sewing," says the owner. We, too, feel deep joy knowing that WASUIAN's samue plays a part in the peaceful time spent at this inn.
